National Gambling Board Launches R10 Million Responsible Betting Campaign

The National Gambling Board (NGB) has announced a R10 million responsible gambling awareness campaign specifically targeting young adults aged 18-25.

The campaign, titled "Bet Smart, Play Smart", will run across social media, radio, and outdoor advertising in all nine provinces. It focuses on setting betting budgets, understanding wagering requirements, and recognising early signs of problem gambling.

South African bookmakers including Hollywoodbets, Betway South Africa, Supabets, and World Sports Betting have pledged additional support, committing to display responsible gambling messaging more prominently on their platforms.

The campaign comes as online betting continues to grow rapidly in South Africa. Recent industry data suggests that over 6 million South Africans now hold active betting accounts, up from 4.2 million in 2024.

The SA Responsible Gambling Foundation helpline (0800 006 008) remains available 24/7 for anyone who needs support.
