Self-Exclusion Resources for SA Bettors
Self-exclusion is a powerful tool if you need to take a break from betting. All licensed South African bookmakers are required to offer it.
What is Self-Exclusion?
Self-exclusion lets you voluntarily ban yourself from a betting site for a set period - typically 6 months, 1 year, or permanently. During this period, you cannot place bets, and the operator is required to close your account.
How to Self-Exclude
- Contact the bookmaker: Most SA bookmakers have a self-exclusion option in your account settings, or you can contact their support team directly.
- Choose your period: Select how long you want to be excluded. If in doubt, choose a longer period. You can always reassess later.
- Confirm: Once confirmed, self-exclusion cannot be reversed until the period expires.
Multi-Operator Self-Exclusion
If you want to exclude yourself from multiple bookmakers, you can contact the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (0800 006 008) who can assist with the process.
What Happens During Self-Exclusion?
- Your account is closed and you cannot log in.
- You should not receive any marketing communications.
- If you have funds in your account, they will be returned to you.
- The bookmaker must not allow you to open a new account during the exclusion period.
Self-exclusion is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a responsible, mature decision. For support, call 0800 006 008 or email help@mzansiwins.co.za.
